Segfaults on x86_64

Reported by Mereghost | February 16th, 2009 @ 02:53 AM

Hi Daniel,

Missing constant bug fixed, now I get this one while starting redcar.

there was an Oniguruma::Error in the preferences for Slate
loaded bundle preferences in 0.014213s
loaded snippet objects in 10.048358s
made 853 Commands in 2.076083s
built bundle menus in 16.530477s
starting Gui.main (in thread #)
/home/dregoth/src/redcar/bin/../plugins/edit_tab/tabs/edit_tab.rb:29: [BUG] Segmentation fault
ruby 1.8.7 (2008-08-11 patchlevel 72) [x86_64-linux]

/usr/lib64/redcar: No such file or directory.

I tried commenting out the line and all I got was a crash message. Seems to have something with the bundle loading.

    As far as I know, you're the first to run Redcar on a 64bit OS. I've investigated and it's possible to run 64bit operating systems inside 32bit host VMs so I may be able to do some testing and try and see what the problem is.

    Could you give me some details about your environment? The OS and the Ruby-GNOME2 version in particular. Also whether you installed Ruby, Ruby-GNOME2 from source or from packages.

    Those times you are seeing are also a lot bigger than on my machine, so I'd be interested to know what specs your machine has...

    thanks for the report.

    OK, here it goes:

    Kernel -> 2.6.27.7-9-default (x86_64) Distro -> OpenSuSE 11.1

    Ruby -> 1.8.7 p72 (from source) Ruby-Gnome2 - 0.18.1 (from source)

    Also that's a somewhat dated machine: Athlon64 3200 with 1GB DDR RAM.

    Any other info you need?

    • Tag changed from x86_64 to opensuse, x86_64
    • State changed from “new” to “open”

    Thanks.

    I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to this, but I'll try and get an OpenSUSE VM working when I get the chance.

    I'll do some fudging with the code too. If I stumble on a fix, I'll tell you. =)

    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks. Ask me if you have any questions. It might be helpful for you to know that you can rebuild the GtkMateView source by running:

    rake build:all

    from inside the gtkmateview directory. Of course you'll need the Vala compiler installed if you want to do that.

    Which version of vala are you using on gtkmateview?

    I'm marking this as resolved, as I think it is the same problem that was solved in http://redcar.lighthouseapp.com/...

    It appears that compiling the Vala doesn't work, but that compiling the C does.

    If I'm mistaken, please correct me.
