unable to paste after focus lost windows

Hello.
Currently with 0.12.0dev, if you start up redcar, then paste
something, then go to another (other app) and copy, then go back to
redcar, you cannot paste. This seems to have been working with
0.11.0 but doesn't now.
Also note it seems to happen on windows only, not linux, at least.

oops that was just a side effect of another commit
