Remove trailing space plugin is overeager
Reported by mscharley | September 15th, 2010 @ 08:35 AM
I'll probably look into this one, but just as a note for everyone, and get some feedback.
The remove trailing space plugin is too eager. It removes spaces at the end of lines that are entirely whitespace. Generally this happens when people leave whitespace in to maintain indentation. I consider this a bug. What do others think?

I'm not sure it's a bug per se, but I agree that it shouldn't do that. Just because it massively increases the I-just-checked-in-100-modified-files problem.

Not a bug, that was intended behavior (to match the Gedit plugin I modeled it after, as well as coding standards for quite a few opensource projects that I know of). I see this has already been changed. I personally prefer not to leave the extra spaces and haven't really seen any need for them (Redcar's auto-indenter works fine for me, no need to "preserve indentation" that I've seen, at least for Ruby code). Probably the best thing to do is make this configurable since I think the way it origially worked is "correct" most of the time. I can do that later today. :)
