Ruby-Dbus doesn't work on Jaunty: 'get_node' error

Reported by bronson | March 25th, 2009 @ 06:09 AM | in 0.2

Following your README, installation went flawlessly on the latest Jaunty Jackalope.

However, when I try to run Redcar, I get this:

bronson@t500-jaunty:~/redcar$ bin/redcar
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/dbus/bus.rb:520:in `process': undefined method `get_node' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError)
	from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/dbus/bus.rb:461:in `send_sync'
	from (eval):24:in `RequestName'
	from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/dbus/bus.rb:375:in `request_service'
	from ./bin/../lib/dbus.rb:12:in `export_service'
	from ./bin/../lib/dbus.rb:51:in `try_export_service'
	from bin/redcar:52

I take it you installed ruby-dbus from packages?

I'll try and reproduce this in a Jaunty VM when I get the chance. In the meantime, you might want to try uninstalling the ruby-dbus package and installing from source instead.

Thanks for the report, and if this fixes the problem please let me know so I can add it to the README.

I was getting this same error, to by pass it I started redcar with the flag --multiple-instance, don't know what the problem is but getting ruby-dbus from source doesn't help

Safetytrick: thanks, that'll work. The only thing you won't have is using is using "bin/redcar file" to open a tab in the currently running Redcar instance, it will always start Redcar over again.

I have downloaded the Jaunty iso and will install and try out tonight if I have time.

I'm not sure why you have this issue. I'm running Jaunty and do not have this problem. Since you're running Jaunty I'm guessing you are getting the daily updates regularly?
