Toolbar icons partially not visible

OS: Ubuntu 10.10
Ruby: 1.8.7-p334

In redcar 0.12, which I installed via rubygems some of the toolbar icons are not displayed. If I hover over the toolbar I only can see the icon-tooltips. In some cases an icon becomes visible if I click or mouseover. On the attached image you can see what I mean.

I already disabled compiz and emerald but that won't solve the problem.
