Due to startup time, show some visual indication that things are happening
Reported by Charles Oliver Nutter | May 2nd, 2010 @ 06:31 PM
Startup time isn't actually that bad, but when coupled with Windows popping up that are blank for several seconds, it can be a little annoying.
Any sort of visual indication that Redcar is booting would help blunt the perceived slowness on startup. A progress bar or spinner, maybe a little text saying what's happening; basically just provide the user indication that "all is well, I'm still working." When I first started up Redcar 0.3.5 from scratch against a specific file, it paused longest after the UI was up and before the window displayed anything. This was jarring; even a small spinner in the Window would have eased my discomfort.

We have a splash screen in 0.5dev now. It appears after jruby and some Redcar core has loaded, so it still takes about 8 seconds to get to that. I'll consider doing a pure Java loader that creates the splash screen before loading JRuby + Redcar next.
Thanks!
